When you are trying a new wine, trust your instincts. Do not buy a bottle of expensive wine just because a friend said it was pleasant. You don’t want to end up spending money on a wine you may not like. Not all taste buds are the same, especially with wine.

Wine makes for a terrific sauce for beef dishes. Start by adding s tablespoonful of butter and a dash of red wine to your saucepan. Simmer long enough for some alcohol to evaporate and allow the sauce to thicken. Then, drizzle lightly over your beef entree.

TEMPERATURE & WINE GLASSES

The temperature of your wine will give it peak flavor.  60 degrees is the right temperature for red wine. Start at 58 degrees so warming can occur. Drink it at about 47 degrees. When white wines are served at a temperature that is too warm, its taste can be quite dull.

Both red and white wines should be kept in their respective glasses. White wine like a small narrow glass, air cannot get to it. Alternately, red wines are best served in wide-mouth glasses. The wider opening allows more air into contact with the wine, warming it and waking up the flavors.

Vintage refers to the year when a wine’s grapes were harvested, not when the wine was produced. A wine with a date of 2010 means that those grapes were harvested during autumn of 2010. This is the time they would get fermented and then aged within barrels until it is time for the wine to be bottled. The wine itself likely didn’t make it to shelves until 2011 or even 2012!

Try spicing things up and experiencing a few new flavors at your favorite venue. Wilson’s Creek has a nice Almond Champagne that you may like when visiting. Don’t get the same ones every time since that’s monotonous. Try one from a different place, or try a totally different type. You may find yourself saving money as well.
